Gasparillo has always had a strong Islamic influence, with several of the local businesses being owned by Islamic families, here is the local mosque. The mosque has long been a hallmark of the town. However it can be a source of traffic congestion, particularly when festivities are held there as there is limited parking within the gates of the compound, forcing people to park on the street.
Religion, like the police and the government is another system of control. The deity of worship is the Leviathan in Hobbs' theory. This similarity between the role of religion and the state is rather interesting and suggests that they are actually analogues of each other in a societal context.
